19 March Update

Important information regarding building closure, computer based exams and materials

1)     BPP buildings

Our Guernsey building and our Don Street building in Jersey will be closed to students from 6pm on Friday 20th March until at least the 27th of April. Both buildings will remain open for the collection of materials by appointment from 23rd March to the 26th March. Our Caledonia Place building in Jersey will be closed from 6pm on 20th March until at least 27th April.

If you have any questions, please contact us via email at jerseyenquiries@bpp.com or guernseyenquiries@bpp.com for enquiries there.

Please do not call the office as we are experiencing high call volumes and cannot answer your calls currently.

2)     Changes to on-demand computer based exams (sat at BPP)

In light of the recent government announcements on social distancing, and alongside our transition from in centre to online delivery of our courses, BPP will be suspending the delivery of Computer Based Assessments/Examinations in our centres with effect from close of business on the 20th March until at least w/c 27th April. This applies to ACCA (AB-LW), Foundations in Accountancy (FA1 to FA), CIMA (all modules) and ICAEW (Certificate Level) examinations.

We ask that any students sitting Computer Based Exams in-centre on the 20th March have read and are compliant with the advice on self-isolation on:

Guernsey students
www.gov.gg/coronavirus
Jersey students
https://www.gov.je/health/coronavirus/Pages/index.aspx

Students must not attend BPP if they have any flu like symptoms, including, but not limited to, a cold, cough, fever.

Any existing Computer Based Examination bookings in this period will be cancelled, and students will have the option to defer or be refunded.

Some students may be concerned about keeping their learning fresh to such time as they do sit their examination. We have already taken action here to extend VLE access for the classes listed above. Students will have access to this for 12 months.

We realise that some students will be keen to progress with their studies during the coming months. We would therefore encourage you to consider starting to study another module/paper in the coming weeks rather than pausing your studies due to the temporary suspension of CBEs, and we are happy to advise on the best approach to this.

The information above refers primarily to “exams on demand”.  In terms of the main examination sittings, we are in ongoing contact with the institutes themselves. As of now there are no confirmed plans to cancel any of the main sittings from May onwards, but this is of course subject to change and we will provide an update when feasible.

3)     Material collection by Thursday 26th March

We ask all students to ensure that they have all materials for their courses up to the June 2020 exams, including revision materials. If you are missing any materials, can you contact the BPP office at your earliest opportunity to arrange a collection time for these materials. Please make an appointment via the email below to collect your materials. Please do not call the office as we are experiencing extremely high call volumes and may not be able to answer.

Update aimed at students of Professional Qualifications

We are now able to give you further information about the way in which the BPP Channel Islands will deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

These are unprecedented times. Unprecedented amounts of news containing a whole host of views are being expressed across the world. Our approach has, and will continue to be, to follow the instructions and advice of the UK Government and the respective States of Guernsey and Government of Jersey when this is absolutely clear. When it becomes less clear we will adopt a highly cautious approach putting safety first.

By adopting this approach we concluded that it is highly likely that further restrictions will be placed upon the population in the coming weeks and because of this we have previously signaled to you a move to online teaching across most of our programmes. We are now implementing our plan to transition to online teaching from 18th March.  All programmes will have transitioned on-line by the 23rd March. A phased transition to online will enable the student experience to be as good as it can be and in any event some programmes do not have teaching scheduled before the 23rd.

At this stage we advise that online delivery will continue in this way, until at least 27th April. Depending on the situation, online delivery may continue for longer, and we will be constantly reviewing the situation, providing updates to you.

Notwithstanding our move to online teaching it is not our intention to close any of our buildings unless advised so to do by the States of Guernsey or Government of Jersey or relevant government departments. Our regulators require us to ensure that all our learners are supported in their education and as such all learners will be welcome to use the buildings, subject to government policy on self-isolation.

Learners have been advised of this and have been told to check their VLE for further information.

Our options for assessments/examinations remain fluid for the moment and depend upon further restrictions the governments and/or health authorities may impose and any relaxation of rules the regulators may grant.

We will be holding a webinar for you to enable you to ask detailed questions about our overall approach.

We would encourage you to keep updated with the latest advice from both the States of Guernsey or the Government of Jersey as relevant to your business.

Update aimed at Professional Development courses, seminars and events delegates

We are now able to give you further information about the way in which the BPP Channel Islands will deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses.

We are now implementing our plan to transition to online teaching from 18th March for the majority of our professional development courses and events.

We strive to be able to continue to service your CPD needs and transitioning to online delivery will enable us to provide your CPD courses whilst also maintaining our efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Please note that if you have any CPD sessions booked already, you will received notification when they are converted to online classes, and this communication will contain instructions on how to join.

We would encourage you to keep updated with the latest advice from both the States of Guernsey or the Government of Jersey as relevant to your business.

We request that you do not telephone the office at this time as we are experiencing exceptionally high call volumes. We will contact you by email in plenty of time before your CPD session.

We kindly ask that you direct any enquiries regarding online courses or cancellations due to COVID-19 to ci-pd@bpp.com, for the quickest response.
