This is a half-day overview designed for those who are new to or require a working knowledge around the world of cryptocurrencies.
The fund management world largely sees cryptocurrency as unsustainable, with three quarters saying that the Bitcoin boom was a bubble.
Is Bitcoin a bubble? Or has the relentless rise in the value of cryptocurrencies led to a more mainstream approach from the world’s investors?
This course looks at the rise of Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Etherium and asks the questions that global investors need to know. Questions such as:
- How have cryptocurrencies evolved?
- What do I need to know about the technology supporting cryptocurrencies?
- If they are unregulated, just how safe are they and what are Regulators, Central Banks and Governments doing in response.
- Will cryptocurrencies ever be considered as potential mainstream investments.

Derek’s career started in Midland Bank Group Treasury (now HSBC) trading FX, Money Markets and Fixed Income. He became a senior Director, before moving to Lehman Brothers, and then Bank of America working both in London and NY.
Derek has been a trader, both inter-bank and proprietary, and also an inter-bank broker, at two of the world’s leading brokerage houses, Tullett Prebon and Harlow Butler Savage (ICAP).
Derek is a frequent speaker on Financial Markets subjects all over the World, is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), a member of the Forex Association (ACI), and a member of the Society of Technical Analysts (MSTA).
Derek is also a founding Director of Spendology. This is a FinTech startup business targeting currently disrupting the travel cash, pre-paid cards and international payments markets in the UK.
